Major partnership formed between OCI Energy, CPS Energy, and LG Energy Solution Vertech to develop a significant battery storage project within ERCOT grid system.
In a significant development for the battery market, CPS Energy, OCI Energy, and LG Energy Solution Vertech have announced a joint collaboration on a major battery energy storage system (BESS) project. The Alamo City BESS, with a capacity of 120 MW/480 MWh, is being developed in Bexar County, Texas, and is expected to reach commercial operation in 2027.
This project is aligned with CPS Energy's Vision 2027 strategy, aiming to meet the community's growing energy needs and advance grid reliability. Rudy D. Garza, President & CEO of CPS Energy, expressed his pride in his team for delivering on the commitment to increase energy capacity for the growing community. He emphasised that every megawatt that the project can provide to customers counts.
The partnership between the three companies was formalised with a memorandum of understanding signed in May 2025. OCI Energy will be responsible for the development of the project, while LG Energy Solution Vertech will supply the storage technology, management, and system integration, as well as long-term services. CPS Energy will act as the off-taker for the energy produced by the BESS.
The deployment of this BESS is a key milestone in stabilising the Texas power grid. The system integrates advanced lithium-ion batteries, control software, and other necessary components to store and release energy as needed, contributing to a more resilient and reliable power supply.
The Alamo City BESS project is the latest news in the battery market, as reported by Batteries News. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the adoption of renewable energy storage solutions and the transition towards a more sustainable energy future.
